📜 Old Testament
The Tower of Babel
Genesis 11
After the great flood, Noah's descendants spread across the earth. For a while, everyone spoke the same language. Then, the people settled in a plain and made a bold and proud decision: they would build a city with a tower so tall it would reach the sky — so they could make a name for themselves and show the whole world how powerful they were.
But their plan was full of pride. God came down to see the city and the tower. He saw that their unity was being used for vanity instead of worship. So He confused their languages so that no one could understand each other, and the building stopped. The people scattered in all directions across the earth. The city was called Babel, which sounds like the Hebrew word for confusion.
This story teaches us something important: when we try to reach greatness through pride instead of humility, things fall apart. True greatness comes from serving God and others, not from showing off. The Coptic Church teaches us to be humble before God, because He alone is exalted above all.
