📜 Old Testament
David and Goliath
1 Samuel 17
The armies of Israel and the Philistines were lined up for battle. Every morning, a giant named Goliath came out shouting challenges — he was over nine feet tall, wore heavy armor, and carried a massive spear. He mocked the Israelite army and their God. The soldiers trembled in fear.
Young David came to the battle lines to bring food to his brothers. When he heard Goliath mocking God, his eyes blazed with courage. "Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?" he said. King Saul was surprised that this shepherd boy was the only one willing to fight.
David refused the king's armor — it was too heavy for him. Instead, he went to a stream and picked up five smooth stones. He walked toward Goliath with just a sling. Goliath laughed. But David shouted back: "You come with a sword, but I come in the name of the Lord!" He swung his sling, the stone flew, and struck Goliath in the forehead. The giant fell. The Israelites roared. The battle was won. This story reminds us that with God, even the youngest and smallest person can face the biggest challenges.
