Jesus Walks on Water

Matthew 14:22–33

After feeding the five thousand, Jesus sent His disciples ahead in a boat while He went up the mountain alone to pray. In the early hours of the morning, the disciples were far out on the lake, straining against the waves and wind. Then they saw something that terrified them — a figure walking toward them on the water. They screamed, "It's a ghost!"

Jesus called out immediately: "Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid." Peter's bold heart leaped up. He said, "Lord, if it is You, tell me to come to You on the water." Jesus said one word: "Come." Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on water toward Jesus. For a glorious moment, he was doing the impossible. But when he looked at the wind and the waves around him, he became afraid and began to sink. "Lord, save me!" he cried.

Jesus reached out His hand immediately and caught him. "You of little faith," He said, "why did you doubt?" When they climbed into the boat, the wind stopped. The disciples worshipped Him and said, "Truly, You are the Son of God." This story reminds us: keep your eyes on Jesus. The moment we focus on our fears instead of on Him, we start to sink. But He always reaches out to catch us.

What this story teaches us
Keep your eyes on Jesus, not on the storm around you — He reaches out to catch you when you fall.
