Manna from Heaven
Exodus 16
In the wilderness after leaving Egypt, the Israelites grew hungry and started complaining. They even said they wished they were back in Egypt eating meat and bread! They forgot the slavery and only remembered the food. Moses brought their complaint to God.
That evening, God sent thousands of quails to settle in the camp — enough meat for everyone. And the next morning, when the dew lifted, something white and flaky lay on the ground like frost. "What is it?" the people asked. Moses said, "It is the bread the Lord has given you to eat." They called it manna, which means "What is it?" and it tasted like honey wafers. Every morning, six days a week, God provided just enough for each family for that day.
The manna stopped only when they finally entered the Promised Land. Jesus referred to this miracle when He said, "I am the bread of life." Just as God fed His people in the desert, Jesus feeds our souls. Every time Coptic Christians receive Holy Communion, we receive the true bread from heaven that gives eternal life.
